The Stating Of The Goals

Okay, I’m going to get right to the point tonight. I considered not even taking the time to post this because I want to actually DO this, not just write about it. But, I need public accountability. When I’ve tried to do this quietly in the past it hasn’t stuck.

I’ve been planning this in my head for a long time and almost went public with it two weeks ago, but chickened out because that meant I actually had to do it. Ever the motivator, a fellow blogger has given me the push I needed at the just the right moment to get me in gear. I liked her one month idea. That sounded more doable than the nondescript “I should do this” idea floating around in my head.

In my happiness board post I mentioned “My Every Day Eight”. These are eight things I have identified over time that I need to do or work on doing better every day in order to be happy and healthy. The first three things on my list are critical to my well-being. Eat. Sleep. Walk.  Those critical ideas are what I plan to focus on for the next 30 days.

I will write more in detail as time goes on, but tonight is for my benefit to get the ball rolling.

And that brings me to… (*drum roll, please*)

THE STATING OF THE GOALS.

Eat.
No more eating or drinking things that I absolutely know from experience will make me feel lousy after eating or drinking them. (Goodbye French Fries, Fried Chicken Sandwiches, and Diet Pepsi. I miss you already.)

Eat one fruit or vegetable per day that is not a potato. (It’s so sad that I have to make this a goal, but it’s true. If I don’t start this now, I’m going to end up with one of those rare diseases you get from lack of vitamins.)

Fewer frozen dinners. (I used to eat them every day for lunch at work. Now I still do that, but I also eat them many nights for dinner as well. That’s a lot of sodium, my friend.)

Sleep.
All screens off at midnight. That means tv, laptop, and phone. The idea is when the screens go off I will get into bed, pick up a book, read for a bit, then go to sleep. (Which is why I’m trying to wrap this post up. Tonight was the finale of the Castle two-part episode and I HAVE to watch it before I go to sleep. I’ve been waiting all week. Screens off at midnight!)

Walk.
Walk at least one mile a day. (This should be fairly easy for me, because I already do this most days. My goal, however, is to make sure I do it every day and try to get in more than a mile if I can. Available time is always my enemy on that one, but I want to make it more of a priority.)

That’s it. 30 days in a row is what I’m shooting for. Today was day 2. The first two days went well, but you’ll get no more details than that from me today. I only have 15 minutes left to get my lunch ready for tomorrow before I need to start watching Castle in order to shut my tv off at midnight. Wish me luck!

And start a 30 day plan of your own, if you are so inclined. Today is as good a day as any for starting something new…
